First Ever Acquisition of Bollywood Film Rights by a Hollywood Studio

Samachar.com reports that Walt Disney has bought the overseas home video rights of Taare Zameen Par, the 2007 award-winning film about problems faced by dyslexic children. Disney will distribute the home video of the film in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

Taare Zameen Par ("Stars on Earth") won the 2008  Filmfare Best Movie Award as well as a number of other Filmfare and Star Screen Awards.  This is a truly must watch film.

This acquisition fits very well with Disney's focus on Children as well as its Indian initiatives. Disney was the first Hollywood studio to establish a joint venture with an Indian studio, Yash Raj Films. Creating animated films for children is a major focus of this joint venture. It's first production is called "Roadside Romeo" and features the voice of Saif Ali Khan.
