Singh is Kingg – Snoop Dogg sure picked a winner

Two weeks ago, we wrote a brief article about Snoop Dogg making a guest appearance in Akshay Kumar’s new film “Singh is Kingg” (see our article – “Snoop Dogg in Bollywood – In Akshay Kumar’s new film “Singh is Kingg”August 2, 2008).

The film is all about its star, Akshay Kumar and conclusively demonstrates his talent, the charm and magic. Read what the reviewers had to say:

  • “…the immensely likable Mr. Kumar shines as a Capraesque hero who spreads bedrock Indian values — honor your mother, help the poor — by example, most conspicuously as the accidental leader of a feared crime gang in Australia” – Rachel Saltz – New York Times – August 15, 2008

  • “comedy does seem to flow effortlessly from this actor..” Nikhat Kazmi – Times of India – August 8, 2008.

“…there’s that crackling chemical equation..”
between Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, said the Times of India. They  have become the most successful pair in Bollywood today. Their earlier blockbusters include Namaste London and Welcome.

“Singh is Kingg” is set to rewrite box office history in India. The opening weekend collection has supposedly surpassed that of the two previous mega-flicks, Om Shanti Om and  Dhoom 2, according to the Times of India.

The film is a huge hit in England and in Pakistan as well. A theater in Faisalabad, Pakistani Panjab, has reported first-day collections of up to 170%, with people even squatting on the floors to watch the film, says the Times of India.

You gotta hand it to Snoop Dogg. He sure picked a winner for his first Bollywood appearance.
