Katrina Kaif, the star of super-hit films Partner, Welcome, Race, Namaste London just to name a few, is one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood. Now, a poll conducted by FHM has named Katrina as the Sexiest Woman in the World. Other women selected in the Top Ten include Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu of Bollywood and Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox of Hollywood.
I have been intrigued by Katrina’s success in an industry that features amazingly beautiful, intelligent and superb actresses. After all, Katrina came to Bollywood as a relative stranger, a model from London. She is neither classically beautiful nor is she a classical dancer with fluid grace. She has not won a Miss Universe or a Miss World title. When she came to Mumbai, she could not speak Hindi without a heavy British accent and her voice had to be dubbed over.
Yet, her success has been meteoric and her acceptance by the viewers phenomenal. In the FHM poll, over 500,000 men voted for Katrina.
After the winning the poll, Katrina said “This poll is something you have to smile about – it’s fun, it’s sweet and I’m really happy to have won this.”
I think this statement is the key to Katrina’s success. Every one of her hit roles shows her smiling, having fun, being sweet and it is clear to viewers that she is really happy to be doing that role.
Katrina is easy to watch and fun to watch. It is not easy as it sounds. Like truly simple speech, it is hard to do what Katrina does. Otherwise, everyone would have done it.
